Don Sangria

To further catch up on some posts, back on April Fool's Day TDN was hosted by Casa Noble, with the theme being their Crystal (Blanco) tequila.  Check out the submitted drinks over at Mixoloseum.  I had recently enjoyed a mix of Rye, Sherry, Cinnamon, and Lemon in a blackboard special sangria of the day while dining at Boqueria, and decided to start there and run with it.  I quite liked the interaction of the sherry and the cinnamon, and thought it could work with tequila as well.  To my taste at least, I was right.
Don Sangria
  • 1½ oz Casa Noble Crystal Tequila
  • 2½ oz Fino Sherry
  • ¾ oz cinnamon syrup
  • ½ oz (blood) orange juice
  • 1 oz lemon
  • ½ oz Aperol
  • 2 dashes Bittermans BT grapefruit bitters
Shake and strain over rocks in Nambé Tilt or Rosenthal Free Spirit DOF glass; I should have garnished with a wheel of orange or lemon but forgot
This goes down a bit too easy; a little sweet and a little fruity but a little strong and a lot tasty, with some interesting interplay between all the flavors.  Oh, and here's what it looks like if you use normal oranges instead of blood oranges:
